The policy of NCCT is to organize training programmes for the personnel working in cooperative sectors with an objective to upgrade their skills and abilities for achieving excellence in cooperative management and administration. Under the aegis of the NCCT, the NICM. Chennai was established in 1954. Since then the NICM has been sustaining a high degree of operational efficiency in the working of Cooperative Institutions and Departments by offering need based training programmes. Besides, NICM organizes national level seminars, workshops and conferences to topical interest and also undertakes Research and Consultancy Services. In June 2004, the Institute celebrated its Golden Jubilee.

Diplomas and Management Development Programmes
The Institute conducts a 26 weeks Higher Diploma in Cooperative Management (HDCM), for the newly recruited officers of the Cooperative Department and Cooperative Institutions. Besides the institute conducts various sectoral diplomas like Diploma in Cooperative Audit, Diploma in Handloom Cooperative Management. Diploma in Management of Dairy cooperatives and Diploma in Industrial Cooperative Management. Also it conducts nearly 75 to 80 short term management development programmes based on the requirements of the user organizations.
Short Duration Programmes
The Institute conducts Short Duration Programme i.e., MDP(Management Development Programme), LDP(Leadership Development Programme) and EDP (Executive Development Programme) in the major field of Human Resource Management, Financial, Marketing, Accounting and Audit, Cooperative Law , Computer , Credit and Banking, Motivational Programmes, Leadership and Personality Development Programmes for the period of 3 days Programmes of the Employees of Cooperative Department and other allied Sectors.
Professional Course (MBA)
The Institute conducts two year full time MBA Programme, approved by the AICTE New Delhi and A f filiated to University of Madras, Chennai since the year 2008. The Programme includes dual specialization subjects i) Finance with Marketing ii) Human Resources with Marketing. The students were given additional training in Soft Skills, Personality Development and Communication by calling experts and professionals from the field. Every month guest Lectures were arranged by inviting eminent personalities both from industries and government.
The institute is producing dynamic management graduates and is facilitating more demand in the open market. Also institute has arranged placement cell for the student’s job opportunities.
Research and Consultancy Projects
The Institute under takes Research and Consultancy activities of State and Central Govt. organizations Viz. Intensive Dairy Development Projects and Integrated Cooperative Development Projects.
